Reflections on the movement to oppose the war against Iran

US imperialism is the greatest enemy of the world’s peoples. We hail the heroic Iranian people in their struggle to defeat it. A second enemy, acting in concert with US imperialism, is Israeli Zionism. Netanyahu and others in the Zionist leadership are openly committed to the goal of Greater Israel, which includes expansion into and occupation of parts or all of Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait. 

The Iranian government and military, and Hezbollah in Lebanon, have inflicted huge blows on both aggressors in the face of horrific carnage. Palestinians have not been defeated. Despite the carnage, neither Hamas nor the two main Palestinian liberation fronts have been destroyed; Hezbollah still exists and is fighting back, and the Houthis remain a potentially powerful player.

On January 17, when large numbers of Iranians had taken to the streets to protest the regime, and were bloodily suppressed, we released a statement that “supports the right of the Iranian people to rebel against the country’s theocratic dictatorship”.

We said: “We support the demands of the progressive elements: 
 
• Oppose any foreign interference in Iran, especially from US and Israel  
• Oppose the Islamic Republic of Iran 
• Defend imprisoned politicians and stop the killings”

The attacks launched by the US imperialists and the Israeli Zionists on February 28 represented a qualitative change in the Iranian situation, and hence in our demands.

The second slogan, “Oppose the Islamic Republic of Iran” was no longer appropriate. Not only was there no organised force within Iran capable of defeating it following the February 28 US-Israeli aggression, but the main task now was also the defeat of that aggression. The Iranian people still have their own independent and just demands which would strengthen the masses and the united front within Iran and the diaspora. They must determine the best way forward in a complex situation.

Heal divisions within the diaspora

Several weeks ago, an Iranian anti-imperialist protest outside the US embassy in Sydney was drowned out by a counter demonstration shouting their love and thanks to Trump and the US.  Israel’s flags were carried by some.

Divisions within the diaspora grew as others also previously imprisoned and tortured in Iran have made clear the key principal contradiction is with the US imperialist regime’s attacks on Iran.  

Reality has made clear there can be no talk at this time of overthrowing the Iranian government which is standing firm against US and Zionist bombardment, as it had previously done with its support for the Palestinians and Lebanon.

On Saturday 14th March a protest organised by the Sydney Anti-AUKUS coalition, the MC demanded an Iranian flag be removed. Rightly, that demand was refused. An Iranian woman who denounced the repressive actions of the Iranian government was drowned out, the microphone removed, and a sea of Iranian flags were raised, alongside placards of Ayatollah Khamenei. Contradictory emotions and demands within the diaspora are to be expected. There must be unity around opposition to imperialism and Zionism and opposing views accommodated and respected. A thousand-strong march spontaneously took to the streets chanting an end to US imperialism, declaring support for Iran, for Palestine, for Lebanon.

In the leadup to the US/Israel attacks some communists, leftists and women activists whose family or themselves had been tortured and imprisoned in Iran, called for the overthrow of the Iranian government alongside opposition to US imperialism. In speeches and in writing, our party had shown sympathy with them.  

US imperialism motivated by rivalry with Russia and China

The assassination of Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, after the US unilaterally ended peace negotiations, is yet another US war crime among millions across the world since World War Two and even earlier.

A crony capitalist US President, who enriches himself and his family directly from government decisions, escalates the US imperialist rampage around the world. 

US imperialism has its own reasons for acting in concert with the Zionist mass murderer Netanyahu. It aims to weaken the influence of rival imperialisms, Russian and Chinese, in the Middle East and specifically in Iran, a full member of BRICS. 

So arrogant are Trump’s mobsters, they made minimal attempts to prepare the ground for the attack with lies and deceit. They quickly dumped the pretence they were liberating the Iranian people. Their disgusting enjoyment of the war, their trashing of rules of war, limited though they are, and sinking of a non-combatant Iranian Navy vessel and abandonment of drowning sailors has alarmed many in the Australian military, particularly in the navy.

Then came denials, and proclaimed ignorance in the face of mass murder of school children.

The US ruling class is divided, with only the military corporations, oil industry and Trump’s CR cronies fully on side. His director of the US National Counterterrorism Centre, Joe Kent, resigned several days ago, saying that “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.” A day or so later, Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence prepared a written statement for a US Senate hearing which said Iran's nuclear enrichment program had been "obliterated" in 2025 strikes, and that the regime had not resumed enrichment activities. 

Trump’s actions have continued to undermine worldwide US alliances with Europe and NATO and much of the rest of the world. 

Iran’s justified retaliation against US military bases in neighbouring countries, has shown the danger of allowing the 750 US bases worldwide, with around 40 in Australia, to operate. We demand removal of those targets from our soil.

The US seems incapable of winning this war. Our party and its spokespeople rightly say we must fight US imperialism here. The period of despondency that followed the Zionist counter attack after the Bondi terrorist attack is being cast aside. 

More and more people understand the cost of living crisis is exacerbated by this war, that it's leading to recession and even an economic depression. Even rationing of some critical commodities seems likely. 

Most Australians can currently cope, but the scale of price rises is shocking. A significant and growing section of our peoples cannot pay the rent or mortgages, or feed and clothe their families. They cannot afford petrol to travel to and from work. Public education and health are undermined. 

We also demand an end to price gouging. We target the giant corporations that control our economy.

While the Federal Government promises to maintain military spending, which has zero to do with defending this country or its peoples, it promises cuts to spending. Where else can these cuts come from, but the basic needs of the people? 

In struggle, we must deepen people’s understanding of what US imperialism means for Australia and its peoples. It’s urgent. 

Our Party places its trust in the masses of the Australian people of all races, ages and religions. Our task is to build the struggle. Serve the People. 

Cut military spending! Remove US military bases. End US domination of Australia.

Zionism: regional expansion in pursuit of a Greater Israel

On March 17, a senior official in the Trump intelligence community resigned in protest against the war with Iran.

Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, the US agency responsible for coordinating and analysing terrorism intelligence, said “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

US imperialism had its own reasons for wanting to attack the Iranian regime, concerned about its siding with the Russian and Chinese imperialists and opposing both US imperialism and Israel.

However, the reasons given by Trump for joining Israel’s surprise attack on Iran, namely, that Iran’s nuclear weapons capacity posed a direct threat to the US, has been undermined by yesterday’s Senate hearing testimony from Tulsi Gabbard, the Director of National Intelligence. 

In a written version of her opening statement, Gabbard said Iran's nuclear enrichment program had been "obliterated" in 2025 strikes, and that the regime had not resumed enrichment activities. She omitted that portion of her statement in her spoken testimony, explaining later in the hearing that she did so to save time.

If, as Kent suggests, it was Israel that controlled the timetable for the attack on Iran, then an examination of Israel’s game plan is in order.

Israel is a racist, genocidal, apartheid state with regional expansionist ambitions.

It was created by acts of terrorism and maintains itself through terrorism.

Its existence is based on the 1897 teachings of the founder of Zionism, Theodor Herzl.

Herzl defined Israel based on a promise made by God to Abraham’s descendants that they would inherit the land between the Nile and the Euphrates (Genesis 15:18-21). 

The Irgun, the Stern Gang and Haganah terrorised the British into surrendering their Mandate over Palestine, and terrorised Palestinians into fleeing the area that became the State of Israel.

But the Zionists wanted more.

The Irgun flag depicted a map, divided by a gun, with modern Israel on one side, and Jordan on the other. Both were areas sought by the Zionists.

Both were part of Herzl’s Greater Israel which includes parts of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Kuwait, Turkey and Iraq. 

The dream of a Greater Israel is what drives Zionist regional expansionism.

Its chief proponents are Netanyahu, Finance Minister Smotrich (banned from travelling to Australia by the federal government in June 2025), and Minister for National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir. Both Smotrich and Ben-Gvir live illegally (under international law) on lands seized from Palestinians in the West Bank. Smotrich gave a speech in 2023 at a podium that displayed a map that showed Jordan as part of Israel.

During a speech before the United Nations General Assembly on September 22, 2023, Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held up a map that shows Israel stretching “from the river to the sea.” When his Likud party was formed in 1977, its original party platform read “The right of the Jewish people to the land of Israel is eternal and indisputable and is linked with the right to security and peace; therefore, Judea and Samaria will not be handed to any foreign administration; between the Sea and the Jordan there will only be Israeli sovereignty.” (Judea and Samaria refer to the West Bank; Gaza is included in the area between the Sea and the Jordan.)

We are yet to see whether the Queensland government, which has arrested two young people for supporting the Palestinian slogan “from the river to the sea”, will also condemn Netanyahu and Australian Zionists for espousing the Zionist’s “from the sea to the river” objective.

Proponents of a Greater Israel have support from an influential section of Trump’s MAGA rightists. Mike Huckabee, who twice ran for the Presidency as a Republican candidate, was appointed Ambassador to Israel in 2025. He is a Christian Zionist and said in an interview aired mid-February that he would not disavow the belief that the Bible promised that land to Israel – even though it now encompasses all or part of Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Syria.

“It would be fine if they took it all,” Huckabee said.

Zionism constitutes an on-going threat to the sovereignty of its neighbours. It provoked the war against Iran in pursuit of Greater Israel, knowing that Iran was supporting elements of the resistance movement in Palestine and in Lebanon and therefore constituted a blockage and obstacle to its further expansion. 

US imperialism’s Trump agreed with and participated in the attack. We can thank him every time we fill up our cars for petrol prices that have gone through the roof. 

Together, the political ideology of Zionism and the arrogance of the Trump administration must be fought.

Our struggles to halt the incorporation of Australia into the US empire are part of that fight.

Adelaide rally demands “Hands Off Iran!”

Around 200 people gathered at Parliament House last night to condemn the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

At least half the crowd were Shia Muslim Iranian-Australians, and the second speaker was Iranian woman Habibah Jaghoori.

Other speakers were CPA (M-L) supporter and Spirit of Eureka member Mike Williss, Australian Friends of Palestine’s Mike Khizam, Independent and Peaceful Australia’s Derek Burke, Socialist Alliance’s Markela Panegyres, and Liam Ellis from the Communist Party of Australia.

The rally endorsed the following demands, put by MC Eileen Darley:

We call on the Australian Govt:

To rescind its backing of the United States and Israeli war on Iran and immediately stop Pine Gaps involvement in the attacks.

Impose sanctions on the Israeli state which includes the supply of weapons’ components  and the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador.

Sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW)

End the Australian alliance with the US. Scrap AUKUS and the Force Posture Agreement and close all US bases on Australian soil.

Comrades and friends,

Well, the man who demanded the Nobel Peace Prize is at it again.

Perhaps led on by the genocidal bloodlust of Netanyahu, the US has attacked Iran even as negotiations between it and Iran on Iran’s nuclear program were in progress. Pearl Harbour anyone?

Within weeks of declaring again that Iran’s nuclear capacity had been obliterated by his previous bombing of its facilities, Trump tried to justify the current aggression by saying that it was necessary to protect Americans from Iran’s nuclear threat.

Netanyahu also declared that the attack was pre-emptive in nature, and required to remove Iran’s threat to Israel.

However, the only basis for a real international rule of law is the UN Charter. Article 2(4) of the Charter prohibits states from using force against the integrity or political independence of any state. This, in effect, makes pre-emptive strikes illegal.

No wonder the man who is so bored with peace, tried to create an alternative to the UN with his Board of Peace.  It’s Orwellian, isn’t it?

I want to say a few words to our friends in the Iranian diaspora in Australia.

We condemn the assassination of Iran’s leaders, including Ali Khamenei, but acknowledge that many in the diaspora have welcomed it. We remind them of the ancient saying to “beware Greeks bearing gifts”.

The phrase comes from Virgil’s Aenid, and refers to the Trojan horse, presented by the Greeks to their enemy, the Trojans, inside of which were hidden Greek warriors who opened the city gates at night to the Greek army outside, which destroyed Troy.

The US imperialists and genocidal Zionists have presented you with a gift – but please, beware.

The death of Khamenei will be welcomed by all who suffered under his regime. Women, progressive peoples and working class activists in their thousands have all been jailed and killed.  

Others will acknowledge Khamenei as a leader of global resistance seeking to break American hegemony and liquidate the Zionist project.

These are divergent views, and need to be correctly handled, non-antagonistically, as contradictions within the Iranian people. It is for the Iranian people to decide the best way forward in a complicated situation.

They must take charge and exercise leadership over their own liberation. The alternative is to have anti-democratic rulers favoured by the US and Israel impose further disaster on Iran.

But there is more to the US gift of Khamenei’s killing.

A pre-emptive strike against Chinese imperialist rival?

The year began with the US abduction of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife – another illegal act.

Both Venezuela and Iran are closely connected to US imperialism’s main rival, China.

Iran is a member of BRICS, the intergovernmental organisation created by Brazil, Russia, India and China in 2009. It now has ten member states, comprises more than a quarter of the global economy and nearly half the world's population, and has challenged the US-led financial world through the New Development Bank and proposals for de-dollarisation.

Iranian cooperation with China through the Belt and Road Initiative includes infrastructure, logistics, energy and trade links, reflecting broader Sino-Iranian partnership beyond BRICS itself. 

Much of Iran’s oil export goes to China.

Venezuela is not a member of BRICS, largely as a result of Brazilian opposition. However, it had close ties with China and has expressed support for China’s Belt and Road Initiative and signed Memoranda of Understanding with Beijing on BRI cooperation, especially related to infrastructure, energy, and broader strategic partnership. 

As with Iran, much of Venezuela’s oil exports went to China.

It is perhaps no coincidence that the two countries subjected to illegal US aggression so far this year both had strong ties to China.

So, if Netanyahu’s crime is motivated by his regional expansionism and desire to create a “Greater Israel” – his term – then Trump’s has a more global motivation, and that is, to try and weaken China in the event that the Orange Idiot decides to go to war with the Middle Kingdom.

And Australia was involved, despite Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s claim that Australia “did not participate in the strikes”. It was involved as a joint participant in the activities of the US war base at Pine Gap which not only intercepts communications, but sends targeting information to the US for the strikes it conducts.

The Australian government rushed to endorse the US-Israeli attacks on Iran.  This is to be expected of a government which itself is enmeshed in an economic, political, military, diplomatic and cultural web of US domination and control, and is incapable of representing Australia as a peaceful and independent country.

We must demand that Pine Gap be closed along with all other US military facilities in Australia, that the AUKUS arrangements be scrapped and the Force Posture Agreement with the US be cancelled. And if our government is going to cheer an illegal pre-emptive strike over an alleged nuclear weapons threat, why hasn’t it signed the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons?

Just as we fight for our own independence and freedom, we hope that the Iranian people can turn current events to their own advantage, unite under a correct anti-imperialist and socialist leadership, and win genuine freedom and independence.

Iran: the enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend

The day after Israel and the US began bombing Iran, a small protest in Sydney united under these slogans, 'No to War, Yes to Freedom and Self Determination – The liberation of the Iranian people will come through their own independent and conscious struggle.’ 
The rage of Iranians at the horrors unfolding and the ignorance of a larger group celebrating nearby with US and even Israeli flags and calling for a new Shah, was expressed by a woman, “The enemy of my enemy is not necessarily my friend.” 
The US and Israel, and Iranian regime are most bitter enemies. But neither are friends of the Iranian people. The speaker told of food and water being cut off to political prisoners. 
Lindy Nolan spoke on behalf of the CPA(ML). Her speech is below.

 

Today we honour the heroic Iranian masses facing the armed might of Israel and of US imperialism. They will never accept another US puppet shah with their mass murders torture and mass jailings.

The masses make history. And all peoples have the right to resist, to overthrow oppression by their ruling class, to organise for women’s freedom and build their own future. We cannot deny Iranians that right. We cannot put limits on it, especially with US imperialism on their doorstep.

War is the continuation of politics by other means. US imperialism’s economic war with China is now a military war with China’s allies. And Australia is involved.
In the 1970s Henry Kissinger called Australia a western “outpost on the edge of Asia”. It’s now a spear projecting US power, into Asia and the Middle East. The US Pine Gap spy base on Arrernte, land near Mparntwe Alice Springs, guided missiles and now drones, to Iraq Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. It chooses the human targets – children, schools, hospitals. US imperialism demands billions, trillions of dollars needed for life, for our schools, hospitals, the homeless, our culture, environment. All for death and war.

US imperialism is at war with its own people and at war with the people of the world.

We oppose it with all our might.

We’ve been in every US war

We honour First Peoples. Since British invasion they fought for their lands, their waters, their cultures. Their right to live. We honour their 140 years of armed struggle.  On this street in the 1790s, Pemulwuy led an armed attack. British colonialism became imperialism. First Peoples never surrendered. 

Australian governments took us to every British war. In World War One, Labor’s opposition leader pledged us to England to the last man and last shilling. In World War 2, PM Menzies said, “It is my melancholy duty” to announce Britain is at war and therefore “Australia is at war.” Before the war Menzies met Hitler, praised him as a as “good for Germany and the German people”, that Australians should be “more like Germans”. He starved workers and broke a strike to send pig iron to Japan. It came back as bombs.

When he declared war for England, Australian troops were in North Africa. None here defending Australia. Menzies went to England. This is our history.

US imperialism long ago replaced British imperialist control of Australia.  In World War Two, Labour PM John Curtin turned from Britain, which betrayed us, to the US. US general Macarthur called him a traitor in relation to operational differences. Said the US would never trust Australia again.

We’ve been in every US war since. Pine Gap now ensures it’s automatic. Beyond our control.

There is no shortcut to victory

The core of imperialism is not military. It’s economic. It’s monopoly capitalism. US imperialism controls the commanding heights of our economy. That’s what all the wars are about. Protecting obscene wealth and privilege.

When anyone tells you the US will support us, tell them this history. When they say, “Don’t bring foreign wars here”, tell them that we are already at war against Iran and that there’s more to come. That subservience to US imperialism makes Australia a target in any war with China. That the US will assert its interests and demand we obey.

We fight US imperialism here. The March for Humanity shows how broad anti-imperialist feeling is. But resistance is not deep enough. The masses and the masses alone make history. We need to go deep among the people, to alert them about what we face, to educate them, to organise, to mobilise them.

We must meet them where they are. In their workplaces, neighbourhoods, community groups, cultural and sporting groups. In every area of life. We must be present and active and organised. There is no shortcut.

The working class, from teachers to delivery riders, nurses to construction workers, has been systematically disorganised, disempowered. Empty slogans and one-size-fits-all tactics cannot replace deep listening to the people, learning from them, taking their ideas and concentrating them into theory, into strategy and tactics, to take back to struggle. 

We must unite all the small struggles into a huge alliance against US imperialism, an end to economic political and military subservience: No to war. Close Pine Gap. Close all US military bases. Independence for Australia.

Today, above all, we salute and stand for the heroic people of Iran. There will be setbacks. But nothing can stop their struggle.

Victory to the people of Iran!

Statement on Iran

The Communist Party of Australia (Marxist-Leninist) supports the right of the Iranian people to rebel against the country’s theocratic dictatorship.

Their just struggle is occurring in a complicated environment with both US imperialism and Israeli Zionism fishing in troubled waters and trying to turn events to their own advantage. 

The anti-theocratic democratic front in Iran extends from genuine anti-imperialist and proletarian elements who want an independent and socialist Iran, to petty-bourgeois and bourgeois elements who want bourgeois freedoms. Some support US intervention.

Struggle within the anti-theocratic front will exist side-by-side with the movement against the theocracy. 

 

We support the demands of the progressive elements: 

 

• Oppose any foreign interference in Iran, especially from US and Israel  

• Oppose the Islamic Republic of Iran 

• Defend imprisoned politicians and stop the killings 

 

We support Australian Iranians calling for solidarity rallies with the uprising. We urge people to join the Iranian Socialists in Australia (ISA) protest on Sunday at Sydney Town Hall at 1pm. 

 

Our best contribution to the struggle is to strengthen mass connections, build solidarity and strengthen our joint struggle against US imperialism and its local collaborators here. 

 

ICOR Declaration: The USA bombs Iran

Stop barbaric US imperialism and genocidal Israel!
The world is dangerously close to a global war after the attacks

The USA's entry into the war alongside Zionist Israel against Iran has ignited a fire in the Middle East that can hardly be controlled. We condemn and refuse the imperialist aggression of the USA and Israel against Iran.

The ICOR declares: Only the fighting workers and masses of the people of the world can still extinguish it! 

 

The USA deployed its entire military superiority with strategic B2 bombers, the largest and uniquely brutal bunker-busting bombs, to destroy three Iranian nuclear facilities. US President Trump has not ruled out the use of nuclear bombs. Israel had previously started the war and launched a war of aggression in violation of international law after the genocide in Gaza. It is thus continuing its plans for Greater Israel, including the genocide in Gaza. Let us make Monday, June 23rd, or all the days ahead of us, international days of struggle against imperialist war and its two current main warmongers! 

 

Organize strikes, demonstrations, rallies and protests on the streets. Educate the masses against any underestimation of the danger of world war! Tear the hypocritical "peace" mask off Trump and the G7!

 

Let us take to the streets worldwide against this imperialist aggression. Workers, women, youth and all people fighting for peace are called upon to take an unequivocal stand, also against the accomplices and accomplices in the governments of their own countries. NATO is playing with the danger of nuclear war. NATO must be dissolved.

 

The masses, especially the courageous women in Iran, took to the streets against the regime in 2022 under the slogan Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom). When we criticize the USA and Israel, we do not support the regime against the masses. The workers, women, and youth can and want to liberate themselves.

 

The hypocrisy of Trump, Netanyahu and their G7 and NATO accomplices is unbearable. The people of Iran do not want outside interference, they do not want to be bombed. In part, the masses support the regime against the attacks because they do not want to perish in the imperialist chaos of war as in Syria or Iraq. Iranian revolutionaries rightly demand: neither Shah nor Mullah! They do not see the USA and Israel as liberators, but as imperialist oppressors. 

 

The attacks pose a major risk of a regional environmental catastrophe with chemical and nuclear uranium contamination. 

 

What will and Russia, which have close military and economic ties with Iran, do? What will other imperialist powers do if Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz - one of the world's most important trade routes? Iran supplies drones for the war in Ukraine, China buys 90% of Iran's oil production at a special price. Today it's not just about peace in the Middle East, it's about the fight for peace in the whole world!

 

The masses of the world need clear, strong and globally connected Marxist-Leninist parties. Therefore strengthen their organization and the ICOR! 

 

Stop the arsonists who risk world war!

Stop the aggression against Iran, which violates international law, and stand up for the peoples of Iran!

Freedom for Palestine! 

Let us strengthen the forces for a democratic and socialist Middle East!

Stop the main warmonger USA together with its Zionist accomplice Israel!

Condemn Israeli Zionist Aggression Against Iran

One week ago, on June 13, Israel initiated military attacks on Iran.  

The attacks were described as pre-emptive strikes carried out in accordance with Israel’s right to self-defence. This was the attitude taken by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong.

There is no justification in international law for pre-emptive strikes.  Israel’s actions were illegal acts of unprovoked aggression, aided and abetted by its protector, US imperialism.

The Australian government must immediately declare that Australia will not join the attack on Iran, and nor will it allow Australia territory to be used by US bombers to refuel or to operate from RAAF Base Tindal near Katherine in the NT.

Wong has joined an international chorus of imperialists and their lackeys who are urging “restraint”.  All of this is directed at Iran, the victim of aggression. 

Wong would not dare urge US imperialist chieftain Trump to “exercise restraint” as he ponders whether to join the Zionists in their attacks.

There is also a chorus urging the Iranian people to overthrow the Islamic Republic “regime”.  Iranian Communists and other progressives have a proud history of struggling against the regime and have not hidden their aim of leading a mass uprising for the revolutionary overthrow of the regime. They alone will determine when the time is right to do that.

The genocidal Zionist regime has killed over 60,000 Palestinians over the past two years.

It has bombed and imposed its authority on parts of Lebanon and Syria.  It is a racist, regional expansionist and we condemn it.
