The strikes are said to be a necessary response to the Assad
regime’s use of chemical weapons against the civilian population in parts of
Damascus.
However, in the week since the attack on August 21, no proof
has been given of the Assad regime’s responsibility.
Instead, political leaders from the US, Britain and France
have hidden behind phrases like “on the balance of probabilities”, “there seems
little doubt” and “we are certain that…”
The US imperialists promise proof of Assad’s culpability by
the end of this week. In the meantime we
have a commitment to military aggression based on no substantial evidence.
The US imperialists have a track record of manufacturing
“evidence” to justify aggression, most blatantly with Colin Powell’s
presentation to the United Nations of the case for Saddam Hussein’s possession
of weapons of mass destruction.
We now know that Hussein had no WMDs. Millions of Iraqis have died, and continue to
die and suffer, in the wake of the illegal US invasion and occupation of that
country.
There are other “probabilities” in Syria that the US and its
allies refuse to countenance.
One is that the
Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusrah terrorists, presented to us as the freedom-loving rebels
of Syria, launched the missiles that released poison over parts of Damascus.
They have sarin in
their possession. This was established
by UN human rights investigator Carla del Ponte, who stated last May that “This
(sarin gas) was used on the part of the opposition, the rebels, not by the
government authorities”.
US President Obama chose not to regard this as a violation
of his “red line”.
Yet he now assembles the means by which to send Cruise
missiles into Damascus to assist the same rebels that US and Australian troops
have died trying to defeat in Afghanistan.
We cannot allow the US imperialists to kill innocent people
with conventional weapons under the guise of sending a “message” about killing
innocent people with chemical weapons!
We strongly oppose Australian support for US, British and
French aggression against Syria.
Hands off Syria!
Down with imperialism
and its lust for war!
